Chapter 4: Installation

Empress ODBC client driver is distributed as part of the Empress system. The latest version of PHP can be obtained from http://php.net.

To install the PHP software follow the instructions in the PHP installation (instructions are in the INSTALL text file). The easiest method is to use the setup script supplied with the distribution. When you run the setup script you will be prompted to select which optional features of PHP you wish to include in your installation. To include the Empress you must set two options correctly. These are:

• Empress support? This should be set to y(es).

• Enter Empress home directory. This should be set to $EMPRESS_PATH (the installation of the Empress RDBMS. Or if you do not have a complete Empress RDBMS installation on the platform that you are installing PHP. Then this should be set to the location of the Empress ODBC client driver. For example, if Empress ODBC client is installed at:

     /usr/local/Empress/odbccl
  
  

  the Empress home directory should be set to:

     /usr/local/Empress
  
  

With these options set correctly the PHP Makefile should automatically include the Empress interface with the PHP program/module.

PHP and the unified ODBC interface are not products of Empress Software Inc. Empress Software supports this product and is involved in ensuring the continued compatibility between PHP and Empress.
